Who we are
Nepal Association of the Blind (NAB) is a non-governmental, non-profit national organization established in 1993 to advocate for the rights and interests of blind and partially sighted (BPS) individuals in Nepal. NAB is led by a 17-member Central Executive Board, including six blind women, elected every three years through its General Assembly. The organization operates through seven Provincial Committees, 59 district branches, and 53 municipal branches, with a membership of over 4,000 individuals across the country.
NAB is affiliated with the World Blind Union (WBU), Asian Blind Union (ABU), the National Federation of Disabled Nepal, and the Social Welfare Council. Its primary mission is to promote and protect the rights of BPS individuals through lobbying, advocacy, and various initiatives.
Our Key Areas of Work:
- Advocacy and Awareness: Organizing workshops and seminars on human rights, inclusive education, voter education, disaster risk reduction, accessibility, and inclusion of blind and visually impaired (BVI) individuals in development.
- Capacity Building: Providing training and leadership development programs to empower BPS individuals.
- Education and Employment Support: Supporting inclusive education, providing educational resources such as Braille and audio books, and promoting employment opportunities through vocational training and income-generating programs.
- Institutional and Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR): Enhancing the skills and independence of BPS individuals through rehabilitation and training programs.
- Central Services: Running computer training, music classes, mobility training, counseling services, and a women's hostel at the central level.
NAB encourages its branches to conduct community-focused activities such as vocational training, savings and credit programs, sensitization workshops, and leadership training to promote sustainability. Additionally, NAB has initiated the process of registering all its branches with local district administration offices to strengthen its local presence and accountability.
