Braille Press

Braille Press in work at NAB

NAB Braille Press since 2001:

The braille press is equipped with Braillo 400, Braillo 200, and Everest V-5 printers for braille book production, a tactile graphics embosser, a braille display, and staffed by three trained personnel. Initially launched with a 4X4 Index braille printer, it was later upgraded with the Braillo 200 in 2003 and the Braillo 400 in 2008. Key supporters include NABP Norway, Plan Nepal, and the Australian Embassy Kathmandu, which have strengthened the press’s capacity.

Under Article 31, Sub-Article 4 of the Fundamental Rights in the Constitution of Nepal, 2072, visually impaired individuals have a fundamental right to read textbooks in Braille. In line with this, the Nepal Association of the Blind, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has been annually printing and distributing Braille textbooks for school-level education. The press uses 140 GSM paper, with the Ministry of Education as its primary beneficiary for school textbook printing. Additionally, NGOs, INGOs, and other agencies utilize their services to print various literature and materials.
